About the Project

RésiDiv set out to acquire key knowledge on the resilience of fruit trees under low phytosanitary protection, and to identify the components of that resilience so as to support variety creation. It also looked for resilient individuals under zero-pesticide conditions, the individuals from which the varieties that more sustainable orchards need can be built.

The project established protocols for characterising susceptibility to pests, phenology, vigour and production traits, then deployed digital analysis methods and genetic markers to identify resilience variables and make early selection possible. Its work focused on the stone fruit species of the Prunus genus, across a multisite and multispecies orchard network.

Key Objectives

  • Identify the components of resilience in fruit orchards grown under low phytosanitary protection.
  • Identify resilient individuals under zero-pesticide conditions, to support the creation of varieties for more sustainable orchards.
  • Develop tools for characterising resilience, digital ones in particular, usable for variety assessment more widely.
