About the Project
The ARC Training Centre in Predictive Breeding for Agricultural Futures is supported by the Australian Research Council through its Industrial Transformation Training Centres scheme. It runs across five university nodes, the University of Queensland, the University of Western Australia, La Trobe University, the University of Wollongong and the University of New England, with the University of Queensland as its administrative hub, and works with 36 national and international partner organisations spanning 21 agricultural sectors in six countries.
It partners with industry to develop world-class training for the next generation of plant and animal breeders, and to advance predictive breeding technology and the human capacity that the sustainability and profitability of Australian agriculture rest on. Its work is organised in four themes: exploring multi-omics resources to improve prediction, using artificial intelligence to turn big data into knowledge, new approaches to modelling the interactions between genotype, environment and management, and optimising the design of breeding programmes so that new breeding technology can be folded into them.
