About the Project

PHENET brings together the European research infrastructures on plant phenotyping (EMPHASIS), ecosystem experimentation (AnaEE), long-term observation of the interactions between nature and people (eLTER) and data science (ELIXIR). Together with innovative companies, they co-develop new tools and methods to help identify future-proofed agroecosystems.

The goal is to characterise the performance of combinations of species, genotypes and agricultural practices in anticipation of the most likely climate scenarios across Europe, drawing on AI-driven multi-sensor devices, Earth observation data and predictive modelling including digital twins. A series of case studies demonstrates how applicable those technological solutions are.

Key Objectives

  • Co-develop new tools and methods with innovative companies across the EMPHASIS, AnaEE, eLTER and ELIXIR research infrastructures.
  • Identify future-proofed combinations of species, genotypes and management practices for agricultural sustainability, climate resilience and biodiversity restoration.
  • Combine AI-driven multi-sensor devices, Earth observation data and predictive modelling, including digital twins.
