Head density is one of the strongest components of wheat yield potential, and one of the most tedious to measure: counting heads on a quadrat, plot after plot, is slow, destructive and rarely done on every plot of a trial.
Literal, the portable high-resolution imaging system, measures Organs Density on every plot in a single pass, alongside Organs Count Heterogeneity, Mean Plant Height and Green Cover. The head counts were validated against manual ground truth across Arvalis research stations, and Cloverfield delivers them per plot, genotype and modality.
Breeders obtain objective, repeatable head density on every plot to rank genotypes on yield potential and link digital traits to genetic markers, without destructive counting.
